Cape to Cairo welcomes you to an unforgettable hunting safari in Mozambique. Enjoy the thrill of an early morning stalk on a weary “dagga boy” and then reminiscence around the camp fire that night about the successful hunt!

Hunting

For hunters, northern Mozambique means the historically game-rich areas along the Rovuma River. The northern concessions surrounding the miombo forests of the Niassa Game Reserve. Niassa is reminiscent of the African Garden of Eden; home of large herds of wild animals in a matching, untamed landscape... a sanctuary of game, counting most of the classic species such as lion, leopard, elephant, Cape buffalo, crocodile, sitatunga, Chobe bushbuck and Livingstone’s eland. Rare subspecies as the unique endemic Niassa wildebeest, Boehms zebra, sable antelope and the endangered African wild dog roam this wilderness.

Very well experienced PH will guide you and take care of every aspect of your hunt…from finding your dream trophy to taking care of your precious cargo following the hunt!

Niassa Reserve Block L1 Concession

Niassa - the world's last genuine wildernesses as Livingston first experienced it when he pioneered his way through the African bush with his caravan of porters and tents, fighting frantic buffalo and man-eating lions...Niassa is a province  located on the north of Mozambique. It has an area of 129,056 km² and a population of 1.027.037  It is the most sparsely populated province in the country with Lichunga as the capital of this province.

A major attraction in the Province is the legendary Lake Niassa. No other freshwater lake in Africa can offer a turquoise and white coastline. Its crystal clear waters allow snorkelers and divers to explore the unique population of the colorful fish - cichlids. The shore of the lake meanders in and out between rocky outcrops and secluded golden and white beaches, fringed by mountains and cliffs rising steeply from the lake's shore. From this unique eastern vantage point, the sunset over the lake is without comparison, as the reflection off the water amplifies the flaming African sun as it descends from the evening sky.

Niassa might be the Last true wilderness in Africa for generations to come...

Only a select few operators have been chosen to conduct sustainable sport-hunting within specially allocated blocks in the Reserve.

The Reserve is home to great-maned lions, plentiful leopard, big jumbo and sable galore. In addition, good populations of both Lichtenstein Hartebeest and Niassa Wildebeest. Other species like buffalo, crocodile, hippo waterbuck, reedbuck, eland and kudu can be found as well in the area.

Clients will be comfortably accommodated in the main camp that sits perched atop a large inselberg. From this vantage point a magnificent view of the Rovuma Valley unfolds. Stone chalets with en-suite bathrooms house our clients here. Meals are served in our open air thatched dining room by one of our trained “bush chefs”. Sundowners are enjoyed around the fire pit taking in the views.

Majune

Immediately south of Block L1 , lies well managed Majune West and East Concessions. This contiguous area of over 1 million acres stretches from the Loreco to Lugenda River. Vast miombo woodlands interspersed with large open vleis make up the habitat in between. This area is a known corridor for elephant and big jumbo's was taken here in its first two seasons of operating. Leopard and lion are also plentiful and along with hippo and croc makes it a great area for hunting dangerous game.

Sable, eland and Niassa wildebeest are just a few of the plains game species that occur in Majune. The camp in Majune West consists of thatched stone chalets overlooking the Lugenda River. Majune East has an East African style camp with canvas tents under thatch. Both camps have en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water. The cuisine served in our open air dining rooms consists of wild game, local dishes and americana style food.

All camps have top-notch trackers, skinners and camp staff.

Mahimba

Mahimba is truly a unique concession within Mozambique. It is situated between two oceanic rivers that along with the Indian Ocean form its boundaries. Unlike many hunting areas found in the Zambezi Delta, Mahimba is not covered by low-lying marshland and swamps. Instead you find pleasant and easy to navigate palmetto flats with coastal forests interspersed throughout.

This protected triangular concession is home to a thriving population of buffalo, sable, elephant waterbuck, bushbuck, reedbuck , crocodile and hippo.

The safari camps are exclusive, well-appointed and remote. Whether on the plains beneath shady acacia trees, in a grove of ancient baobabs, or beneath doum palms and tall tamarinds on a secluded stretch of river bank, each camp site ensures a completely private Mozambique experience.Camps provide stunning views and all of the necessary comforts to make your safari enjoyable. Camps consist of either stone chalets with thatched roofs or East African tents under thatching.

All client chalets have en-suite bathrooms with hot running water. Professionally trained chefs prepare refreshing lunches that might consist of cold salads, game meat sandwiches and fresh local fruit. Clients arriving in 2011 will enjoy staying in chalets constructed from indigenous hardwood with thatched roofs. Each chalet comes with its own en-suite bathroom.

Your safari will take you through a new habitat each day. Around every corner there is a chance of seeing a different species, a new horizon, or embarking on an unusual adventure.

Mahindo River Retreat
Adjacent to Mahimba Game Reserve is an old Portuguese colonial mansion that will undergo rehabilitation starting in 2010 and finishing in 2011. The Mahindo River Retreat lies on the oceanic river that forms the northern boundary to Mahimba and thus has direct access to great big game fishing. Starting in November 2011 we will start offering fishing and exclusive private retreats to Mahindo River.

Hunting days are full of excitement and a trip of a life time awaits you!
