The Melkriver hunting ranch is located within the greater Waterberg Biosphere, a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve. The Waterberg ecosystem can be characterized as a dry deciduous forest or Bushveld. Within the Waterberg there are archaeological finds dating to the Stone Age, and nearby are early evolutionary finds related to the origin of humans The area is 15 000 square kilometres of an unspoiled and little known corner of Africa, fringing the Botswana border, has always been a remote, inaccessible wilderness which attracted adventurers, gunrunners, outlaws, runaways and hardy pioneers of old.
Spectacular rocks rise out of the bushveld lowlands, the Waterberg Massif stretching more than 150 kilometres from the Marakele National Park in the southwest, to the Masebe National Reserve in the northeast. An abundance of iron and manganese gives these sedimentary rocks of the cliffs and buttresses their distinctive red, orange and purple hues which glow in the setting sun.

Accommodation

The Lodging facilities are properly equipped with luxurious features and splendid serenity. Rooms are uniquely decorated and comfortable, adding to the quality of service our clients return for.
After an exciting day in the African bush, guests may regale in a sundowner accompanied by a host of birds and animals as they prepare to settle down for the evening. If the hunting carried on till dark the hunters can get back to a warm, inviting fire and specially prepared meals. Specialty meals are composed of traditional South African dishes, which are complimented by a wide selection of local, hand picked wines. All meals may be custom-prepared according to guests’ specific requirements.

Hunting

Our professional hunters, trackers, skinners and lodge staff are individually trained to meet your highest expectations and your prized trophies will be treated with the same degree of professionalism as the actual hunt.

There are so much said about hunting in Africa, but we believe there are no words that can wholly describe the feeling of accomplishment for a hunter to track & hunt a trophy in the wild African bushveld!

Hunting is conducted on the fair chase basis and all our hunts are on foot, stalking the game. We can, of course, adapt the hunt to meet a client’s special needs or requests. Hunting is offered on 50,000 acres. This gives the hunting client the opportunity to hunt on a variety of over twenty species of plains game.
