For many hunters, an African Safari is the pinnacle of our sport. To track game in the African bush, to stalk one of the Big Five, to watch the sun set over the plains and join fellow hunters around a campfire to swap tales of the day.
With a variety of private ranches, lodges and vast consession areas available, Cape to Cairo is well positioned to ensure that your specific requirements are addressed. Rest assured your trophy wish list, trophy size, type of accommodation, preferred hunting area, your budget and much more will be considered when planning your trip.
Your day will begin with a breakfast of your choice before the sun rises. After this you will climb onto one of our well equipped hunting vehicles and drive to an area where our well qualified PH`s expect to find the species that you are interested in hunting. Here you will leave the vehicle behind and commence a stalk. A stalk can take anything from ten minutes up to three or four hours. The PH will guide you, and you will have a tracker with you as well .There will be water available at all times. Once game is spotted, the PH will instruct you on how you will approach. He will then identify one or several possible trophy animals. Once you are close enough, the PH will identify an animal that will qualify for the high standard of trophies that we set for our clients. The PH will then endeavor to get you in the best possible shooting position. Shots are taken from shooting sticks or the help of branches, ant hills, etc. is brought into play. Shots are usually taken from 30 to 180 yards, depending on the circumstances. The PH will make it clear that you should only take the shot of you are ready and comfortable to take it. No client is ever pressured into taking a shot.
Once an animal has been harvested, the client will get the opportunity to take pictures and enjoy the moment. In the mean time, the hunting vehicle will be recovered and the trophy will then be taken to our slaughtering facilities. There the animal will be skinned and the trophy will be taken care of.
You will hunt until about Noon, when it will get too hot and you will head back to the hunting lodge for a well deserved light lunch and a short afternoon snooze. Alternatively you can lounge around the pool.
After a quick coffee you will commence the afternoon hunt. This takes on the same form as in the morning. You will hunt until the sun sets on the African skies.
Once you get back to the lodge, you can enjoy a hot shower in your en-suite bathroom, where after a cold sundowner can be enjoyed around the campfire.
Dinner is usually served in the lodge, where you can enjoy some of the wonderful local cuisine and great South African wines while reminiscing about the day’s adventures.

Safety is one of our top priorities and we plan to return all our clients home safely after having experienced the adventure of a life time along with superb trophies and amazing photography to prove it. Our safaris are always led by experienced Professional Hunters. Fair Chase is someting we believe in and we are strong advocates thereof. “Fair chase is defined as pursuit of a free ranging animal or enclosed ranging animal possessed of the natural behavioral inclination to escape from the hunter and be fully free to do so. A sport hunted animal should exist as a naturally interacting individual of a wild sustainable population, located in an area that meets both the spatial (territory and home range) and temporal (food, breeding and basic needs) requirements of the population of which that individual is a member.”
Terrains differ according to the species hunted and vary greatly, from wide open savanna grasslands, semi- desert and desert, rugged mountains, to thick Mopane scrub bushveld and, bamboo patches and seep line palm stretches to natural forests in the higher rainfall areas. All species are obviously not found in one country due to the terrain variety, which results in traveling between different areas or countries, depending on the species wanted.
Accommodationvaries, from tented camps with reed fences around them, ranch houses, chalets with thatched roofs to luxurious Safari Lodges. Normally double beds or twin beds in rooms. Flush toilets and hot shower facilities available. Meals vary from ranch style cooking to western world style and consist of vegetables of the season, meat (mutton, beef, game and pork). Fresh drinking water is always available. Things to considerwhen researching and booking a safari…
Trophy and Day Fees
The size and location of the properties hunted is of importance. Does the property lie within the natural distribution range of the species? Does it hold a self sustaining number of hunt able species and trophy size individuals within ecologically intact habitats? It is essential to remember that within the same area particularly well suited habitats can support specific species and/or higher densities of game whereas less suitable types may have lower game densities and species may be absent due to a combination of limiting factors.
Of importance is also whether the property is hunted exclusively by one safari operator and/or by the owner, or whether the hunting rights are sold to a number of itinerant operators. Somebody with a permanent or long term interest in hunting a certain area will usually manage game and trophy quality better. The cheapest trophy fee is not really cheap, if there are no or few mature animals to hunt! A safari is like any other consumable commodity – you usually get what you pay for!
