Set on a gentle slope nestled between two rolling hills, Madikwe Safari Lodge overlooks game-filled plains with the Dwarsberg Hills in the distance and the Marico River nearby. The region is also imbued in history and has seen the passage of Mzilikazi and a range of explorers, traders, hunters and missionaries, including Dr David Livingstone, Sir Cornwallis Harris and the famous South African author, Herman Charles Bosman.Madikwe Safari Lodge is ideally situated in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve. The lodge offers interactive bush walks, which allows you to get close to nature!
The Madikwe Game Reserve is home to over 250 different bird species. Interactive bush walks are ideal for bird watching. You will learn more about nature while spotting some of the smaller creatures in the African bush. Some of the bird species you could see include Violet eared Waxbill, Crimson-breasted Shrike, Cape Vulture and Black breasted Snake Eagle.
Game drives are offered twice a day, early morning and late afternoon / evening. Keep your eye out for the Big Five, namely Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo. Other African wildlife you might spot including Giraffe, the elusive Wild Dog and Oryx.During the warm afternoons, cool off in your sparkling plunge pool before having a relaxing siesta. Look forward to mouthwatering cuisine during your malaria-free safari in South Africa. Delicious meals are served under the African sky in the boma (outdoor enclosure).
Madikwe Safari Lodge consists of three exclusive camps – totalling just 16 suites in all – feature a simple yet sophisticated Madikwe style. Each very spacious suite features a sitting area and en-suite bathroom.
The best time to visit the Madikwe Game Reserve are the South African spring and fall seasons, as you will get nice sunny days and not to chilly evenings. Best months are September and October, the park is dry, animals congregate at pools and rivers which makes them more easy to find, temperature is hot during the dry and nice summer evenings. December-March is rainy seasons, but this rain comes mostly in afternoon thunderstorms. In general Madikwe catches only 600-800 mm of rain so that isn't very much. During the day it can be come hot. The scenery will be green. April till August are also nice months with clear blue skies during the day with temperatures around 72 degrees but during the nights temperatures can go back to 40 degrees.
