Upon your arrival in Windhoek you will be met by your pilot/guide. Depart from Windhoek Eros airport, and head south across Namibia’s scenic south. Discover the stark beauty of the Namib Desert at Sosusvlei – famous for its spectacular giant sand dunes.
SOSSUS VLEI
Located in the Namib Naukluft park, the largest conservation area in Africa, and fourth largest in the world - surely one of the most spectacular sights in Namibia. The sand dunes of Sosusvlei in the Namib Desert are often referred to as the highest dunes in the world! The best time to view Sosusvlei is close to sunrise and sunset; the colors are strong and constantly changing, allowing for wonderful photographic opportunities.
'Vlei' is the Afrikaans word for a shallow depression filled with water (well, a depression that might sometimes be filled with water!), and the name 'Sosusvlei' should strictly only be applied to the pan that lies at the place where the dunes close in, preventing the waters of the Tsauchab River from flowing any further - that is, on the rare occasions that the river does flow as far as this. During exceptional rainy seasons, Sosusvlei may fill with water, causing Namibians to flock there to witness the grand sight, but normally it is bone dry. This particular 'vlei' is actually a more-or-less circular, hard-surfaced depression that is almost entirely surrounded by sharp-edged dunes, beyond which lies a formidable sea of rolling sand, stretching in unbroken immensity all the way to the coast.
Arrive at the camp – situated in the 37 000-hectare private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, commands a panoramic view of the valley and mountains beyond.
Accommodation at consists of 10 comfortable chalets with en-suite bathrooms and verandas built on elevated platforms for that spectacular view. The main area is raised to take advantage of the endless vista and comprises a lounge and bar under thatch. Meals are taken on the deck and guests can cool off at the sparkling pool.
Activities are focused on exploring the nearby world-famous Sosusvlei - an enormous clay pan, flanked by the famous sand dunes that stand out starkly against the blue sky. These dunes - the most well-known being Big Daddy or Dune 45 - have developed over millions of years, the wind continuously refashioning the contours of this red sand sea. The 'vlei' itself only fills after rare heavy rainfall when, in a complete turn-around, it transforms into a spectacular turquoise lake. On the edge of the Namib, the oldest desert in the world, wildlife around the camp is fascinating in its adaptation to the harsh conditions. Sparse, yet thrilling to see, are springbok, gemsbok, ostrich, bat-eared fox, the rarely seen aardwolf and many small fauna. Excursions to the incredible dunes of Sosusvlei are a must. As are guided walks and scenic nature drives. 1 Night (DBB)
SWAKOPMUND Following morning breakfast, your flight will head north west towards the coast line and some shipwrecks to the coastal town of Swakopmund.Swakopmund is a quaint little town sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Namib Desert and has its own authentic colonial charm. From the rugged, desolate beauty of the desert, to the historical grace of its buildings, a visit to the Skeleton Coast is a unique experience.
Travellers have long mystified the Skeleton Coast with its intriguing stories of shipwrecks, desolate dunes and beach roaming carnivores. But due to its harsh environment and long history under varying control and protection, few people have had the opportunity to experience this fascinating corner of the world. With a new eco-tourism venture, the northern sector of the Skeleton Coast is becoming more accessible to the high scale adventure traveller, and its mystique increases as we gain more and more knowledge about the area.
Activities include a tour of this historic town and a boat trip (weather permitting). You will see Dolphins on most trip!Other activities available on request are skydiving, quad Bikes, sand-boarding, birding, Cape Cross Tour, fishing, a "Living Desert tour", Sandwich Harbor tour. Overnight at the Stiltz -overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Swakop riverbed, the sand dunes and the bird-rich lagoon of the river mouth.
As its name suggests, each private bungalow is built on stilts, and they are interlinked by wooden walkways, as well as to and from the main dining bungalow. It is hard to believe that with such a unique setting, it is actually in the town. Only a brisk 15 minute walk from the town centre, and is a very convenient base to explore Swakopmund town centre, with it's plentiful selection of restaurant's, bar's and amenities.
1 Night (B&B only) Lunch and dinner at local restaurants.
ETOSHA The camp is located in western Etosha National Park,-it is the first camp to be built on this side of Etosha, opening up a territory previously not accessible to mainstream tourists. Some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Etosha roam freely here, including Hartmann's zebra which does not occur in the eastern section. The surrounding vegetation of mainly karstveldt and mopane shrubland is different to the rest of the park. The camp is set amongst dolomite formations, ensuring game drives are conducted in one of the park's most scenic locations. The dolomite hill, the setting of the camp, boasts hundreds of seasonally blooming plant species, a lure for botanists and photographers alike.
Large herds of zebra, giraffe and antelope wander the plains around Dolomite Camp. Black and white rhino are present in numbers, often at Klip-pan waterhole. Previously endangered species such as the black rhino and black-faced impala have been successfully bred here. Wildlife excursions are conducted by professional and knowledgeable tour guides. Apart from the normal Etosha game viewing a special attraction of the Otjiovasondo area is the opportunity to see both the Plains Zebra and the Mountain Zebra drinking or grazing side by side and spotting the rare Sable Antelope. In line with the history of this ancient land, the restaurant area is spread out, almost 'kraal-like' with natural and traditional building materials as shelter. Buffet meals can be enjoyed in the 'kraal' of your choice. Included is a daily game drive in Etosha National Park.
2 Nights (DBB) Morning breakfast is followed by another stunning scenic flight south towards Windhoek.
