Day 2,3,4

Bordering the Kalahari Desert to the west, rimmed by the mighty Vaal River in the South and extending to the craggy, scenic hills of the Magaliesberg in the northeast, the North West Province is a treasure trove for travelers.

Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the few malaria-free reserves in southern Africa. Located in South Africa along the Botswana border and 12 miles from Gaborone, the Reserve lies within a transition region between lowveld bushveld and the Kalahari thornveld. As a result, the region is host to an incredible diversity of species from both ecosystems. Geographically the region has enormous volcanic intrusions known as Inselbergs, which are prominent throughout the reserve and create a spectacular backdrop.

The Camp is a stylish tented lodge in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, a community project of the highest standards. A blend of natural stone, fibres and wood reflect the spirit of Africa and the bushveld. The safari style tented camp is set in the riverine forest on the tranquil banks of the Marico River. Madikwe is home to a tremendous diversity of fauna and flora, including both black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog.

The Victoria Falls – Now in it’s 150 millionth fantastic year - Reaches Its zenith in about May each year. It’s a truly awe-inspiring experience – the sight, the sound, the smell; the humbling feeling that here indeed is Nature’s Supreme Masterpiece. No photograph can begin to depict the reality…and nothing prepares you for your first sight.

Dr Livingstone was the first European to see the Victoria Falls in 1855. Known locally as Mosi-Oa-Tunya or "the smoke that

thunders" because of the spray made by the mass of water dropping 100 meters below in the gorges. Livingstone renamed

the falls Victoria Falls in honor of Queen Victoria. 50 Years later, missionaries and traders settled in the small Zambian town

of Livingstone and the railway bridge over the Zambezi was built.
